Future Minds Announces the 2021 25 Under 25
Future Minds Network today announced the 2021 Future Minds 25 Under 25, recognising young founders, researchers and changemakers under the age of 25 who are already doing work that is changing their communities and industries.
This year's class was drawn from more than 1,000 nominations across 40 countries.
Among this year's honourees are Titouan Bernicot, founder of Coral Gardeners, who has led the planting of more than 157,000 corals to restore reefs in French Polynesia; Chanel Contos, founder of Teach Us Consent, whose campaign has made consent education one of the most urgent conversations in Australian schools; and Gitanjali Rao, inventor, scientist and TIME's first Kid of the Year, whose inventions have inspired more than 50,000 students.
Nathaniel Diong, Founder and CEO of Future Minds Network, said: "Young people are our best hope. They continue to push boundaries and reimagine what is possible, and this year's honourees are proof of that."
The 2021 class at a glance
The honourees span three categories:
- STEM Innovators: researchers, engineers and inventors working at the edge of what's possible.
- Founders & Entrepreneurs: young people building businesses with real customers and revenue.
- Social Impact & Changemakers: leaders of social enterprises, charities and campaigns serving communities the system has overlooked.
How the honourees were chosen
Nominations were open to anyone. Every one of the 1,000+ nominations was read by our team, and shortlisted candidates were assessed by a panel of esteemed judges, on the scale of their impact, the originality of their work and where it is heading next.

Nominees must be 24 or younger on 31 December 2026 — meaning the whole list is still 25 or under at the point of publication. Ages shown on each profile are as of 31 December in the year the list is published. If someone turns 25 between nomination and announcement, they remain eligible.
Nominations open publicly, and anyone can nominate. Every submission is read in full by the Future Minds team and scored against the five hallmarks. The strongest are shortlisted within their domain, so a climate researcher is weighed against other climate researchers rather than against the whole field. The shortlist goes to an independent panel of founders, funders, researchers and past listers. Judges assess only within their own domain, declare conflicts, and never score a nominee they’ve worked with, funded or invested in. Final selections are made by consensus across the panel and the Future Minds team.
Yes, and plenty of listers have. Self-nominations are read identically to third-party ones — we’d rather read a hundred applications from people who put their own name forward than miss someone because nobody around them knew the form existed.
