How many people impacted? And who were they? Christopher O. Fallah has directly impacted over 3,000 MSMEs across Africa, including small business owners, rural entrepreneurs, digital startups, and merchants in the informal sector. These businesses, once hindered by limited access to digital tools, unreliable financial services, high transaction fees, and logistical challenges, now benefit from Annita's services, enabling them to operate more efficiently, access wider markets, and scale beyond local economies. How were they supported? Christopher’s approach has been holistic, addressing several pain points through Annita’s unified digital platform. By combining e-commerce, fintech, logistics, AI-powered business tools, and marketing solutions into a single ecosystem, MSMEs have been empowered with: Seamless Digital Payments – Businesses can accept a variety of transactions, such as mobile money, bank transfers, and card payments, facilitating smooth and secure financial operations. Market Access & Visibility – Entrepreneurs have gained access to a larger customer base through Annita’s marketplace, digital marketing tools, and social networking features, enhancing their ability to grow. Logistics & Fulfillment – Small businesses, particularly in rural areas, have access to affordable, reliable delivery solutions, overcoming transportation challenges. AI-Driven Insights – Businesses can use predictive analytics to enhance sales strategies, optimize pricing, and better engage customers. Financial Inclusion – Many MSMEs, previously excluded from formal banking systems, now have access to digital wallets and financial management tools that help them scale and grow. How much money did you raise? Although Annita has not conducted an official fundraising round yet, Christopher has successfully secured over $3,500 in grants from competitive entrepreneurship support programs, which have recognized Annita’s potential and impact. Additionally, Annita has generated nearly $100,000 in revenue, which showcases strong market demand and validation for the platform's offerings. This revenue reflects the success of Annita’s ability to help businesses run efficiently, transact smoothly, and grow sustainably. What does this mean for the people you work with? For MSMEs, Christopher’s work is more than just providing business tools; it is about economic empowerment and sustainability. By addressing issues like financial exclusion, inefficient processes, and market barriers, Annita has given entrepreneurs the ability to: Increase revenue and scale operations by breaking down technological barriers and connecting them to a broader market. Reduce operational costs by eliminating the need for multiple platforms and offering affordable, bundled services. Access credit and financial services that were previously unavailable, enabling businesses to expand and invest in their future. Create jobs and opportunities within local communities, as businesses can now grow and generate demand for services and employment. Explain a case study. A fashion entrepreneur in Liberia provides a great example of how Annita can make a difference. She initially struggled with limited customer reach and payment collection issues, relying on social media and cash-based transactions. This made it hard to scale her business. After integrating her operations with Annita’s digital marketplace and fintech solutions, she experienced impressive growth: Sales increased by over 150% within six months, as she gained access to a more diverse and wider customer base. Seamless payment processing allowed her to accept mobile money and card payments, solving her previous cash flow issues and streamlining her transaction process. AI-powered marketing tools helped her optimize her pricing strategies and personalize promotions, leading to higher customer retention. Improved logistics solutions enabled her to expand her reach beyond Liberia, fulfilling orders across multiple African countries. This case study illustrates how Annita can help entrepreneurs transform their businesses, improve financial stability, and thrive in a competitive digital economy. While MSMEs are already benefiting from our e-commerce, marketing, and logistics services, we are actively working on launching the full Annita Ecosystem, which will provide comprehensive solutions for business growth, including our fintech platform launching this year.

My work has mostly been in impacting literacy development and 21st-century skills training. It spans both school-level initiatives and broader community-driven projects, shaping the future of education for marginalized students. Through the Drop All and Read (DAR) program, I spearheaded a school-wide literacy initiative that engaged over 300 students and staff, embedding reading culture across subjects. Additionally, my recent project 5IReady Academy Phase 1 workshops directly benefited 30 students from underserved communities, equipping them with digital literacy skills for starters. The DAR program improved reading comprehension by integrating literacy strategies across the curriculum. It also fostered student engagement in public speaking, book clubs, and leadership roles in reading campaigns. 5IReady’s Phase 1 workshops were supported by Global Changemakers, an international network that provided mentorship, resources, and collaborative partnerships to scale the initiative, and now, possible funding. The workshops introduced students to future-focused skills, preparing them for a technology-driven world. While still in the early phases, I leveraged strategic partnerships rather than direct funding. I did however secure funding from the Department of Education and more non-monetary support from Global Changemakers that included expertise, digital resources, and networking opportunities, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and future financial backing. Students in the DAR program now have improved literacy skills, increasing their ability to succeed academically across all subjects.Participants in 5IReady gained exposure to essential 21st-century skills, giving them a competitive edge in higher education and future career. Teachers and mentors involved in both programs received training on integrating literacy and digital skills into their teaching, amplifying the long-term impact of these initiatives. One student, initially disengaged due to poor literacy skills, showed remarkable progress through the DAR program. By the end of the initiative, they confidently participated in public speaking and debate competitions, demonstrating the program’s success in transforming both academic and personal growth. Similarly, a participant in 5IReady Phase 1 entered the program with no coding experience but, by the end, developed a functional mobile application prototype, proving that access to the right resources can unlock hidden potential. Through these initiatives, [Your Name] is shaping the future of education and bridging literacy gaps, fostering technological skills, and empowering young minds for success in a rapidly evolving world.

I am a young climate expert with a PhD in carbon capture, who cofounded Mission Zero Technologies in 2020 to develop and scale technologies for recovering atmospheric carbon emissions via Direct Air Capture (DAC). In the past 5 years, we have raised over £30 million from the world's foremost climate funders, companies, and VCs such as Bill Gates-backed Breakthrough Energy Ventures, 2150, Anglo American, Fortescue, Siemens, and World Fund, and our tech has gone from ideation to live £MM commercial deployments in Europe and North America, already pulling out hundreds of tons of CO2 from the air to combat climate change. Today, we are the UK's leading company in this space and one of only two globally to have live customer operations in multiple countries.
My cofounders and I are strategically targeting opportunities in high-impact sectors for the circular economy, like aviation and building materials, where alternative technical means of decarbonisation are very costly and need a long time to mature. As a result, our company enables many other key decarbonisation technologies, which rely on accessing sustainable CO2 to replace environmentally harmful processes.
Our commercial projects have been recognised for their social impact; e.g. our flagship UK government project with our partner, O.C.O Technology, will enable production of ultra-low-carbon building materials that could be used for public housing. As another example, in 2022 we were 1 of 15 teams awarded $1 million by the Carbon Removal XPRIZE competition among >1000 entries worldwide, for Project Hajar, aiming to deploy large-scale carbon removal and cogenerate green power for rural communities in the Middle East (the only winning project outside the Western Hemisphere at the time).
In a personal capacity, I also dedicate time towards youth engagement and entrepreneurship in a climate and energy transition context. I have co-organised and/or spoken at two editions of the international Student Energy Summit, organised by the Canadian NGO Student Energy, in London and Abu Dhabi (the world's largest such event, involving >600 young people from >100 countries) alongside COP discussions. In the UK, I have mentored, coached, and delivered workshops for budding student entrepreneurs for the last 3 years at the Imperial College-based Climate Pre-Accelerator involving students from across the UK - here through my involvement I have supported over 30 student teams, several of which have gone on to actually incorporate companies, develop their products, raise initial funding and are tackling a wide range of climate challenges themselves. Some notable examples here are Cyanoskin, Agreka Build, and Ventrix. Alongside, I have given numerous university lectures both about carbon capture as well as entrepreneurship, to ensure the climate changemakers of tomorrow can act on the lessons learnt of today.
In my career so far, I have been humbled to gain recognition from Forbes (30 Under 30 - 2023 - Europe - Social Impact), my alma mater Imperial College London (Emerging Alumni Leader Award, 2025), Meaningful Business (Elected to the #MB100 list in 2024, for leaders combining profit & purpose), and Diversity UK (Named among the Top 100 Asians in UK Tech, 2024). My company has also been recognised by XPRIZE (mentioned earlier), the Europas (Hottest Series A Startup - 2024), the Diamond List (2022), Cleantech Group (50toWatch, 2023), and PwC (Net Zero Future50 list, 2025).

In high school, Catherine lost a close friend to suicide. At 15, she did not recognize the signs of depression or suicidal ideation. She promised herself that if a similar situation ever arose, she would do everything in her power to prevent it.
So, she attended Texas Tech University on a full ride as one of 15 Terry Scholars at Texas Tech (a school of over 40,000 undergraduate students), with the hopes of eventually becoming a child and adolescent psychiatrist. After volunteering with children in the community, however, she noticed a lack of free, quality STEM programming. She reflected on her own elementary school experience, where a majority of students, including herself, received free or reduced lunch. She recalled how her after-school STEM club teachers developed her fascination with science and later medicine. In an effort to do the same for other students, she collaborated with Lubbock Independent School District to create Widening Horizons, an organization that provides free, semester-long after-school STEM programming to Title I elementary and middle schools, local libraries and museums, and community centers in Lubbock, TX. Catherine led over 30 volunteer mentors in designing STEM experiments and running after-school STEM clubs. Since its inception, it has served over 500 students in the classroom, and over 1000 in the community.
After graduating with a 4.0 and BA in Chemistry, she started medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) with plans of becoming the first physician in her family. She began researching the relationship between asthma and mental health conditions and published three peer-reviewed mental health-related studies. Her research explores the relationship between asthma and different mental health conditions, including depression and alcohol use disorder. She also researches how certain medications, including antidepressants, can improve asthma control.
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), which are a type of antidepressant, have proven efficacious in treating many medical conditions, including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, COVID-19, and irritable bowel syndrome. Recent research suggests they may also treat asthma, a chronic inflammatory condition that affects approximately 8% of the United States population. In addition to its physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest tightness and wheezing, asthma can also affect a person emotionally, socially, and occupationally. In total, asthma is estimated to cost the U.S. $80 billion every year. Her research suggests that SSRIs, which have fewer dangerous side effects to other asthma medications, like corticosteroids, improve asthma control in patients with asthma and depression. She hopes that overall, her research improves the quality of life of those with asthma and/or mental health conditions.
Catherine also serves as a peer-reviewer for a substance use journal and has won several awards after presenting her research at national conferences.
Catherine is interested in the intersection between psychiatry and technology. As an LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC-identifying woman, she understands the barriers to traditional mental health care many of her peers face, including stigma, lack of access to therapists, or financial constraints. As a result, she began developing Lotus, a gamified, AI-powered mental health symptom tracking app and suicide prevention tool targeted towards LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC- identifying adolescents.
Lotus combines features of several different mental health apps on the market to create a “one stop shop” for symptom tracking. It includes peer-reviewed mental health screening surveys that are appropriate for adolescents (e.g. PHQ-9, GAD-7, Mood Disorder Questionnaire), medication adherence tracking, the option to seek help from a trusted contact, healthcare provider, or suicide prevention hotline if suicidal ideation is detected, mini games, and a points-based system to motivate the user to utilize the app frequently. Furthermore, since mental health treatments often take weeks or months to work, it can be difficult to determine how well they have been working without longitudinal data. With the help of AI, Lotus analyzes survey responses and creates a report summarizing their symptom fluctuations for their provider. If worsening symptoms are detected (e.g. scores appear to increase over time), Lotus urges the user to seek treatment.
Knowing that many users of Lotus may not be out to their family or healthcare provider, Catherine designed Lotus to be completely anonymous; no personal information is required to create an account. She wanted to ensure that each user can feel confident that their sensitive information remains unidentifiable.
Lotus is currently in the prototype phase and has been recognized by Ashoka Changemakers and Blackstone Launchpad.
When she is not working on Lotus, studying, taking care of patients, or volunteering, Catherine is serving as a mentor. She co-founded First Gen MD at UTSW, which provides free advising to students who will also be the first in their families to pursue medicine.
The most important thing to know about Catherine, however, is that she never gives up when she believes in something. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she wanted to ensure students still had access to fun, educational STEM experiments. Therefore, she led the packaging of 1,000 STEM kits to distribute across schools in Lubbock and provided virtual programming instead of in-person clubs. As a result, students were still able to participate in fun STEM experiments during a time when most after-school programs were unavailable. I believe that is what makes her such an effective leader!
